Remark

Measure of renal function

The Blood Urea Test measures the level of urea nitrogen in the blood to evaluate kidney function and hydration status. Urea is a waste product formed in the liver when the body breaks down proteins, and it is filtered out by the kidneys.

Why is the Blood Urea Test Important?

  • High urea levels may indicate kidney dysfunction, dehydration, excessive protein intake, or heart failure.
  • Low urea levels can be caused by liver disease, malnutrition, or excessive fluid intake.

This test is commonly performed along with creatinine in a Kidney Function Test (KFT/RFT) to get a complete picture of kidney health. It helps diagnose conditions like chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury, and urinary tract disorders.
