Uric Acid Test

The Uric Acid Test measures the level of uric acid in the blood to help diagnose and monitor gout, kidney disease, and metabolic disorders. Uric acid is a waste product formed when the body breaks down purines, which are found in certain foods and body tissues. Normally, the kidneys filter out uric acid, but if too much is produced or not excreted properly, it can build up in the blood (hyperuricemia).

Why is the Uric Acid Test Important?

• High uric acid levels may indicate gout (painful joint inflammation), kidney stones, kidney disease, or metabolic disorders.
• Low uric acid levels may be linked to liver disease, certain medications, or genetic disorders.
• People with a high-purine diet (red meat, seafood, alcohol) or metabolic issues are at higher risk.

This test is often recommended for individuals experiencing joint pain, swelling, kidney stone symptoms, or those undergoing chemotherapy (as treatment can cause uric acid buildup)
