It is used to detect heart muscle damage, especially in conditions like heart attacks (myocardial infarction). CPK-MB is released into the bloodstream when heart muscle cells are damaged due to a heart attack, inflammation, or injury.

Why is the CPK-MB Test Important?

High CPK-MB levels indicate heart muscle damage due to a heart attack, myocarditis, or cardiac surgery.
This test helps differentiate heart-related pain (cardiac origin) from muscle injuries or other causes of chest pain.
It is often used along with Troponin tests for a more accurate heart attack diagnosis.
