Diagnosis of chikungunya infection, Fever is caused by alphavirus transmitted by aedes aegypti
The Chikungunya IgM test detects IgM antibodies in the blood, which are produced in response to a recent Chikungunya virus infection. Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne viral disease that causes fever, severe joint pain, muscle pain, rash, and fatigue. This test helps diagnose active or recent infections, typically within 5–7 days of symptom onset.
A positive Chikungunya IgM test indicates a recent or ongoing infection, while a negative result may mean no infection or that the antibodies have not yet developed. Since symptoms of Chikungunya are similar to Dengue and Zika virus infections, additional tests may be required for an accurate diagnosis. This test is recommended for individuals experiencing high fever, joint pain, headache, rash, or recent travel to areas with Chikungunya outbreaks.
