Reticulocyte Count

The Reticulocyte Count test measures the percentage of reticulocytes (immature red blood cells) in the blood. This test helps evaluate bone marrow function and red blood cell production, making it useful for diagnosing and monitoring conditions such as anemia, bone marrow disorders, and response to treatments like chemotherapy or iron therapy.

Reticulocytes are produced in the bone marrow and released into the bloodstream before maturing into fully developed red blood cells. A high reticulocyte count may indicate conditions like hemolytic anemia, recent blood loss, or response to treatment for anemia. A low reticulocyte count may suggest bone marrow suppression, chronic disease, or nutrient deficiencies such as iron, vitamin B12, or folic acid deficiency. This test is often recommended for patients with unexplained anemia, fatigue, or abnormal blood cell counts.
