Level 2 Ultrasound

Level 2 Ultrasound, also known as a targeted or anomaly scan, is a detailed prenatal ultrasound performed typically between the 18th and 22nd week of pregnancy. It provides a comprehensive evaluation of the baby’s anatomy and helps identify structural abnormalities or congenital defects in various organs.

During this scan, the doctor carefully examines the baby’s brain, heart, spine, kidneys, limbs, stomach, bladder, and face. It also checks the amniotic fluid levelplacenta position, and fetal growth. While it can reveal the baby’s gender (if the parents choose to know), its primary purpose is to ensure that the baby is developing normally.

The scan is non-invasive and painless. A water-based gel is applied to the mother’s abdomen, and a transducer is used to send sound waves that create real-time images on the screen. If anything unusual is detected, further tests or follow-up ultrasounds may be recommended.

A Level 2 ultrasound is crucial for early detection of anomalies like heart defects, cleft lip, spina bifida, and limb deformities. Early diagnosis allows for better planning, management, or even treatment options before or after birth.
