Remark

Previous History

TORCH Profile is a group of blood tests used to detect infections that can be harmful during pregnancy. The test screens for Toxoplasmosis, Other infections (like Syphilis, Varicella-Zoster), Rubella, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). These infections can cause congenital disabilities, miscarriages, or other complications if transmitted from mother to fetus.

The TORCH test is especially crucial for pregnant women or those planning pregnancy, as early detection can help in timely medical intervention. The test is performed using a blood sample, which is analyzed for antibodies (IgM and IgG) against the TORCH infections. IgM antibodies indicate a recent or active infection, whereas IgG antibodies suggest a past infection or immunity.

Doctors recommend the TORCH test if a pregnant woman experiences symptoms like fever, rashes, swollen lymph nodes, or if there is a history of recurrent miscarriages or fetal abnormalities. It is also useful in diagnosing infections in newborns who show signs of developmental issues.

Since no fasting is required, the test is easy to take at any time of the day. A positive result requires further evaluation and medical consultation to determine appropriate treatment or preventive measures.

Prevention includes vaccination (for Rubella and Varicella), practicing good hygiene, and avoiding exposure to potential sources of infection, especially during pregnancy.
