Anti-Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide (Anti-CCP)

The Anti-Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide (Anti-CCP) test is a blood test used to detect anti-CCP antibodies, which are commonly found in individuals with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This test helps in the early diagnosis and prognosis of RA, a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes joint pain, swelling, and stiffness. The presence of anti-CCP antibodies suggests a higher likelihood of developing severe and progressive RA, leading to joint damage over time.

A positive Anti-CCP test strongly indicates rheumatoid arthritis, even in its early stages before symptoms fully develop. A negative result does not completely rule out RA but may suggest a lower likelihood of the disease. This test is often performed alongside the Rheumatoid Factor (RF) test to confirm the diagnosis. Early detection allows for timely treatment, helping to manage symptoms and prevent joint deformities.
