The Antistreptolysin O (ASO) Titre Quantitative test measures the level of ASO antibodies in the blood. This test helps diagnose and monitor complications arising from past streptococcal infections, especially rheumatic heart disease and post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (kidney inflammation).
A high ASO titre indicates a recent or past streptococcal infection, which may cause complications affecting the joints, heart, or kidneys. However, a negative or low ASO titre means no recent exposure or infection. Doctors may recommend this test for individuals with symptoms like joint pain, fever, fatigue, sore throat, or unexplained inflammation.
