Remark

Measure of renal function

The Creatinine Test measures the level of creatinine in the blood to assess kidney function. Creatinine is a waste product produced by muscle metabolism and is filtered out by the kidneys. If kidney function is impaired, creatinine levels in the blood rise, indicating potential kidney disease or dysfunction.

Why is the Creatinine Test Important?

  • High creatinine levels may indicate kidney disease, dehydration, high protein intake, or muscle disorders.
  • Low creatinine levels may be seen in muscle loss, liver disease, or malnutrition.
  • Creatinine Clearance Test (using both blood and urine samples) provides a more accurate estimate of kidney filtration rate (Glomerular Filtration Rate – GFR).

This test is commonly performed as part of a Kidney Function Test (KFT/RFT) to monitor kidney health, especially in individuals with diabetes, high blood pressure, or chronic kidney disease (CKD).
