The Sugar (Fasting/PP) Test measures blood glucose levels in two conditions:
- Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS): Blood sugar level measured after 8-12 hours of fasting (usually in the morning).
- Postprandial Blood Sugar (PPBS): Blood sugar level measured 2 hours after a meal to check how the body processes glucose.
Why is the Sugar (Fasting/PP) Test Important?
- High fasting blood sugar may indicate diabetes, prediabetes, or insulin resistance.
- High postprandial blood sugar suggests poor glucose metabolism and possible diabetes.
- This test helps diagnose and monitor diabetes, gestational diabetes, and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
When is the Test Recommended?
- If a person has symptoms like frequent urination, excessive thirst, fatigue, or blurred vision.
- For individuals with diabetes, metabolic disorders, or those at high risk due to family history or obesity.
- Often included in routine health checkups and diabetes monitoring.
