Torch IgG & IgM

TORCH IgG & IgM test is a blood test used to detect infections caused by Toxoplasmosis, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). These infections can pose serious risks, especially during pregnancy, as they may cause congenital abnormalities, miscarriage, or developmental issues in newborns. The test identifies IgG and IgM antibodies to determine past or recent infections.

IgM antibodies indicate a recent or active infection, whereas IgG antibodies suggest past exposure or immunity. The test is particularly important for pregnant women to assess the risk of transmission to the fetus. If a recent infection is detected, additional confirmatory tests may be needed.

The TORCH panel is also recommended for newborns with symptoms like jaundice, low birth weight, hearing loss, or neurological issues. Early detection allows timely medical intervention, reducing complications.
