Mantoux Test

The Mantoux Test, also known as the tuberculin skin test (TST), is a diagnostic tool used to detect tuberculosis (TB) infection. It involves injecting a small amount of purified protein derivative (PPD) under the skin of the forearm. After 48 to 72 hours, a healthcare professional examines the injection site for any reaction, such as swelling or redness, to determine if the person has been exposed to TB bacteria.

A positive result does not confirm active TB. Further tests, such as a chest X-ray or sputum test, are required for diagnosis. A negative result may indicate no TB infection or an inability to mount an immune response.
