The Antistreptolysin O (ASO) Titre Quantitative test measures the level of ASO antibodies in the blood. These antibodies are produced in response to an infection caused by Group A Streptococcus bacteria, which can lead to conditions such as strep throat, scarlet fever, and rheumatic fever. This test helps diagnose and monitor complications arising from past streptococcal infections, especially rheumatic heart disease and post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (kidney inflammation).

A high ASO titre indicates a recent or past streptococcal infection, which may cause complications affecting the joints, heart, or kidneys. However, a negative or low ASO titre means no recent exposure or infection. Doctors may recommend this test for individuals with symptoms like joint pain, fever, fatigue, sore throat, or unexplained inflammation.
