Bleeding Time (BT) Test

The Bleeding Time (BT) test measures how long it takes for a small blood vessel injury to stop bleeding. It assesses platelet function, blood vessel integrity, and overall clotting efficiency, making it useful for diagnosing bleeding disorders such as thrombocytopenia, platelet dysfunction, and von Willebrand disease.

A prolonged bleeding time may indicate conditions such as low platelet count, platelet disorders, vitamin C deficiency, liver disease, or the use of blood-thinning medications like aspirin. A shortened bleeding time is rare and typically not clinically significant. The test is often performed alongside Clotting Time (CT), Prothrombin Time (PT), and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT) for a complete assessment of clotting function.
