Body Fluid C/S

Body Fluid C/S (Culture and Sensitivity) is a diagnostic test used to detect infections in various body fluids, such as cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), pleural fluid, synovial fluid, peritoneal fluid, and pericardial fluid. It helps identify bacteria, fungi, or other pathogens causing infections and determines the most effective antibiotics for treatment.

This test is crucial for individuals showing symptoms of infection, such as fever, swelling, pain, difficulty breathing, or neurological issues. It is particularly important for diagnosing serious infections like meningitis, peritonitis, pleuritis, and septic arthritis. The test involves collecting a sample of the affected body fluid through procedures like lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, or aspiration, depending on the suspected infection site.

Once collected, the sample is cultured in a lab to allow microorganisms to grow. Sensitivity testing is then performed to determine which antibiotics or antifungal medications will be most effective in treating the infection. Results typically take 24 to 72 hours, depending on the pathogen.
