CA-125

CA-125 is a blood test that measures the level of cancer antigen 125, a protein often found in higher amounts in individuals with ovarian cancer. While elevated CA-125 levels can indicate ovarian cancer, they may also be associated with other conditions like endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, or pregnancy. This test is commonly used to monitor ovarian cancer treatment, detect recurrence, or assess individuals at high risk.

The CA-125 test is particularly recommended for women with a family history of ovarian cancer or those experiencing symptoms like persistent bloating, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or unexplained weight changes. However, since CA-125 levels can rise due to non-cancerous conditions, further diagnostic tests such as ultrasound or biopsy may be required for confirmation.
