CPK-NAC Test

The CPK-NAC Test measures the total level of Creatine Phosphokinase (CPK) in the blood, an enzyme found in the heart, brain, and skeletal muscles. This test helps assess muscle damage, heart attacks, and neurological disorders. The N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) method is a reliable technique used for measuring CPK levels accurately.

Why is the CPK-NAC Test Important?

• Elevated CPK levels may indicate muscle injury, heart attack, stroke, rhabdomyolysis, or muscular dystrophy.
• High levels are often seen in trauma, intense exercise, infections, or certain medications affecting muscle health.
• Low levels are generally not of clinical concern but may be associated with reduced muscle mass.

This test is commonly ordered when a patient experiences muscle weakness, pain, cramping, or suspected heart or brain-related damage. If heart issues are suspected, CPK-MB (heart-specific) and Troponin tests may be performed alongside this test.
