The Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) measures how well the body processes glucose (sugar) over a period of time. It is primarily used to diagnose diabetes, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes (during pregnancy). This test evaluates the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar levels after consuming a glucose-rich drink.

Why is the OGTT Test Important?

• Normal glucose levels suggest proper glucose metabolism and insulin function.
• This test helps detect early signs of diabetes even if fasting blood sugar appears normal.

When is the Test Recommended?

• If a person has symptoms of increased thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, or fatigue.
• Pregnant women are often tested between 24-28 weeks to check for gestational diabetes.
• Individuals at high risk of diabetes due to family history, obesity, or metabolic syndrome.
