PAP Smear (LBC/Slide)

A PAP Smear (LBC/Slide) is a screening test used to detect abnormal cervical cells, including precancerous changes and cervical cancer. It helps identify infections, inflammation, or human papillomavirus (HPV) infections that may increase the risk of cervical cancer. The test is performed using either a conventional slide method or liquid-based cytology (LBC), which enhances accuracy by reducing contamination.

This test is highly recommended for women as part of routine gynecological check-ups. It is essential for early detection of cervical abnormalities, allowing timely treatment and prevention of cervical cancer. Women should undergo regular screening every 3–5 years, depending on age, medical history, and risk factors.

A small sample of cervical cells is collected using a speculum and brush or spatula. The procedure is quick, generally painless, and does not require fasting. However, to ensure accurate results, it is advised to avoid sexual intercourse, douching, or using vaginal creams 24–48 hours before the test.

This test is specifically recommended for women aged 21 and older, particularly those who are sexually active. Regular PAP smears help detect early changes in cervical cells before they develop into cancer.
