Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) is a key regulator of calcium and phosphate metabolism in the body. Kidney diseases can also impact PTH levels, as impaired renal function affects calcium and phosphate balance. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) often leads to secondary hyperparathyroidism, where the body overproduces PTH to compensate for calcium imbalances.

The PTH test is usually performed via a blood sample, and results are interpreted along with calcium and phosphate levels for accurate diagnosis. Treatment for abnormal PTH levels depends on the underlying condition and may include medications, dietary changes, vitamin D supplements, or surgery in severe cases.
