Total PAS (Periodic Acid-Schiff) is a laboratory test used to detect polysaccharides, glycoproteins, and mucosubstances in tissues or bodily fluids. It is primarily used in histopathology to diagnose various conditions, including fungal infections, glycogen storage diseases, and certain types of cancers. The PAS stain highlights abnormal carbohydrate accumulation in tissues, helping in disease identification.
